Default semantic model usage

I have a lakehouse in a workspace and i built relationships, measures using default semantic model.

Now if i have to give an end user just access to the  semantic model such that he can build reports on that semantic model,

what are the steps and permissions that are needed both at semantic model level and also at workspace level?

Any detailed steps/suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!!

Hi @Bhargava05

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/service-datasets-share

The semantic model owner must have Member or Admin role in the workspace.
โ€ข The end user does not need workspace roles unless saving reports to the same workspace (requires Contributor).

Grant Build permission to enable report creation

@nilendraFabric  thanks for your reply,

I did only give read and build permissions to lakehouse and semantic model. But unless given viewer access to one user he's not able to access the semantic model; he was able to read-build-save reports in his own workspace or in another workspaces he has access to when given viewer access.

For another user unless given contributor access, user is not able to read-build reports, if he wanted to save the report he was only able to save in the workspace that the semantic model is in, neither in the user own workspace or any other workspaces he has contributor access to.

Let me any your thoughts, thanks!!

โ€œBuildโ€ permission alone is not enough-users also need at least โ€œViewerโ€ access to the workspace to discover and connect to the semantic model.
โ€ข โ€œContributorโ€ access is needed in any workspace where users want to save their reports.
