Sharepoint With Excel

I'm using an Excel file uploaded to a SharePoint folder. Since the name of the Excel file can change, I'm connecting the folder containing only the Excel file to Power BI.

The Excel file was downloaded from an ERP server and uploaded to SharePoint with a size of 115MB. When I access the Excel file once and exit, its size drops to 70MB. Power BI doesn't refresh until the size is reduced, but after it is, it refreshes. I'd like to know why.

Error Code : This Excel file cannot be loaded because the format cannot be understood. The file contains corrupted data.

Hi @ericjo ,

Based on the message it seems like it can be an error of the dowload since it refers that the file cannot be understood, if you open it and save it and it's readable by Power BI it seems that the download that is being made has some additional metadata that is not recognized has a XLSX.

For test did you tried saving the file (without opening it) to a local folder and check if Power BI desktop returns the same error?

One option can be to download in CSV format insted of Excel, if possible of course.

@ericjo Hi! You can use Power Query with SharePoint Folder connector

  • In Power BI, connect to SharePoint Folder and filter on the newest file.

  • But the refresh will still fail unless the file is cleaned.
