"This SQL database has been disabled." error message

Hi,

I'm just receiving this error message when accessing any of my SQL Databases:

This SQL database has been disabled. Please reach out to your Fabric Capacity administrator for more information.

I'm the admin, no matter the options I change the error still there.

any idea?

why my SQL databases has been disabled? and how to enable them again?

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

I opened a support ticket.

it's a known issue.

when you pause a capacity this disabled the SQL Databases, opening a ticket is the only option to enable them back. (for now)

pausing a capacity has multiple issues, mirrored cosmosdb databases is also impacted, you have to stop and restart the mirror after a pause of a capacity.

Hi @Jerome22 ,

If you're seeing the message "This SQL database has been disabled", even as an admin, here are a few things to check:

  1. Fabric Capacity Status – make sure your capacity is active and not paused or suspended.
  2. Go to Admin Portal > Capacity Settings, and ensure the SQL Endpoint feature is enabled.
  3. Confirm that your workspace is assigned to a Fabric capacity (not just Pro).
  4. If everything looks fine, check the Microsoft Fabric Status Page – it might be a temporary service issue.

Let me know what you find – happy to help troubleshoot further!

Thanks for the update @Jerome22 – that’s super helpful!

So just to summarize for others:

  • Pausing a Fabric capacity disables SQL databases, and currently the only way to re-enable them is by opening a support ticket.
  • This also affects mirrored Cosmos DB databases, which need to be manually restarted after a pause.

Definitely something to keep in mind when managing capacity!

Hi @Jerome22 ,

Thanks for your response. Do you have a source saying it is a known issue?

I'm not seeing this on either of these known issues lists

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/known-issues/fabric-known-issues

https://support.fabric.microsoft.com/en-US/known-issues/

I don't have it.

during my call to the support team they inform me about this issue.

as it's a preview feature, I think it's not documented yet.

preview features are not officialy supported (so use them at your own risk... 😉 )

@Jerome22 Gotcha- thanks for sharing. Got this error message earlier today and there isn't much out there on it.
